LONDON, 2 April 2021: Race Marketing & Management (RMM), promoter of the World Parkour Championship, is pleased to announce that the opening round of the 2021 season will be held in Istanbul on May 21-23.
The news sees the world’s leading international Parkour series returning to Turkey following the success of a round of the championship in Mardin in 2018.
The first round of the season is supported by the Turkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) and its ongoing ‘Go Türkiye’ campaign. “We are delighted to be opening the season in Turkey thanks to the tremendous support we have received from all parties, not least the TGA” said RMM managing director Selim Kemahli. “The wellbeing of our athletes, personnel and spectators is paramount and we are working closely with the local authorities and the sport’s federation to ensure that all the correct Covid-19 protocols are in place.”
The three day event will take place at the 13th Century Byzantine Palace of Porphyrogenitus, known as Tekfur Sarayı in Turkish, which has been made available by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The newly renovated venue offers a unique and historic atmosphere as well as a stunning backdrop for the event, in keeping with the heritage of this ancient metropolis.
The event will showcase 20 of the world’s elite Parkour athletes with a large turnout of qualifiers expected at the season-opener and facing three days of practice and qualifying sessions, with the finals for Speed on Saturday, Freestyle and Biggest Trick finals taking place on Sunday and all being streamed on the official web site, Recast, Facebook and YouTube.
